What is the Being and Belonging Exhibition Tour?

Being and Belonging: Contemporary Women Artists from the Islamic World and Beyond is a bold exhibition exploring the defining issues of our time from the perspective of 25 women artists from or connected to the broader Islamic world spanning across West Africa to Southeast Asia or living in diaspora. Deftly interrogating themes of identity, power, sexuality, and home, this exhibition resists simple stereotypes with outstanding artworks from both emerging and well-established artists.

This two hours  long Royal Ontario Museum visit will take participants on a journey through the Royal Ontario Museum with the lens of health and well-being to support self-management and healthy living. The gallery visit will journey into mindfulness and creative spaces that we hope will help connect participants with the experiences of their peers as well as artists’ creations while living with chronic conditions.

Peer Ambassadors leading the visit have been trained by the Royal Ontario Museum and South Riverdale Community Health Centre. These individuals have experience living with or supporting others with chronic health conditions.

Who can attend?
Anyone living with or giving care to someone with a chronic health condition that has registered for the program.

What does it cost to attend?
There is no fee. ROM and SRCHC have partnered to offer this program at no cost. Registered participants will receive instructions on accessing ticket as well as travel support.

Who developed the program?
The Royal Ontario Museum and the South Riverdale Community Health Centre co-designed this program and have established a partnership to offer free mindfulness gallery visits led by a trained Peer Ambassador.
As a program, we have curated an experience from a lens of chronic disease management that is grounded in reflection in which the gallery visits serves as an opportunity for people living with long term health condition to exercise mindfulness while interacting with the artwork as well as others in a fun and creative manner.
